Question by John: What should I name my photography business?
i live in dallas, and take portraits, still life, nature and wedding photos. I shoot just about anything. i was raised in ft worth, native texan, a romantic at heart, funny, dorky, outgoing and artistic. i’d like it to be something to do with photography, or pictures but still professional but not stuffy. i hope this helps, and that you can help.
Question by annabelle75: What to do about a fraudulent business?
The videographer for our wedding (Dallas Holmes Photography, Houston, TX) has still not produced our wedding video after the allotted 90 days, and he has our full payment of 00. After numerous attempts to contact him via phone, email him, go to his business (he was not there), and send a certified letter, he has not responded. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but who knows what will happen. I finally spoke with him before Christmas and he claims to have fallen ill, but would have his assistant contact me and have my video completed shortly. That was over three weeks ago with no phone call from his assistant and no video. Attempts have been made again to contact him with no response. Can I call the police and press fraudulent charges or just go straight to a lawyer? I hate to spend anymore money on this asshole!
Best answer:
Answer by D Call Judge Judy! Something like that would be best for small claims court as hiring a lawyer for such an amount would probably not be worth it.

Videotaping and editing weddings – while it represents a substantial percentage of our total production efforts, is not the only thing we do. We also videotape seminars, conventions, training programs, marketing videos, dance recitals, memorials and theatrical productions, just to name a few. And while most of our customers are private individuals, we also produce videos for small businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, government agencies, churches and Fortune 500 companies.
The important work of capturing a bride and groom’s most important day is not something we take lightly. We’ve been videotaping weddings since 1982 and take great pride in all of the positive testimonials we continue to receive on a regular basis. However, the business of being a wedding videographer – especially if you have a strong desire for excellence – has its challenges. And during a recession those challenges are multiplied. As a wedding videographer I am compelled to provide a high quality product, superior customer service, affordable prices and work diligently to produce a meaningful profit.
A quote we often use in marketing our wedding video business is: “Your Wedding Never Ends When You Capture It On Video.” And there’s a great deal of truth in that statement. Unlike photos, video is live action and sound. Much like a Hollywood movie, a professionally-produced wedding video can capture the events of your special day from beginning to end.
Depending on your vision and budget, the cameras can be there from the moment you awake in the morning, capturing each key moment throughout the day, and lasting until your final farewell that evening. In addition to videotaping the wedding and reception, many couples include several other components in their final DVD; a birth-to-engagement photo montage, love story (mini-documentary on how they met, etc), parent interviews, wedding-guest interviews, and rehearsal dinner coverage.
Words cannot describe the power and influence of your wedding video. The day can go by so fast that it is often just a blur in your memory. Through video, you, your friends, family, and more-importantly, your children and future generations can experience the excitement and joy of your most important day.
We are not suggesting that Video be used to replace photos. But current trends indicate that more couples are beginning to recognize its importance and many view video as a definite necessity in their list of priorities when planning the wedding day. I’ve heard from dozens of married couples who, when they learn that I’m a wedding videographer, declare regret at not including video in their wedding plans. Just think of how special it would be to view a video of your parents’ and/or grand parents’ wedding day. And with the power, speed, influence and affordability of email, free web sites, CDs and DVDs, couples can easily share the excitement and joy of their special day with friends and relatives who were unable to attend the wedding-day festivities.
If nothing else, couples should invest in a professionally-produced video of their wedding ceremony. The video is a living record – an historical account of your most important and happy day. It is not an expense – its an investment in history – in essence – a gift that keeps on giving, for generations to come.
