Q&A: Wedding Photographer?

Question by Jessica: Wedding Photographer?
I’m looking for an inexpensive wedding photographer in the Houston area. It seems like everyone wants 00 plus for the service. I’m having a small wedding and would rather not break my budget on the photos. I know ten years down the road the photos will be how we remember our day so any suggestions would be helpful.
I’m hoping to not spend more than 800. I like the idea of using “a la carte” plans. Some wedding packages include up to 5 hours of photos. I’m hoping I can get a better price for only 2-3 hours. I think it’s want to go with a professional as well.

I’m going to ask you a huge question – how inexpensive is “inexpensive?

Photos ARE going to be worth a million words. In the future, you’re not going to remember the dress. Or the cake. Or the catering. Or the flowers. Or the shoes. Or the venue.

What you’ll remember are the photos.

I don’t know how much you want to spend, but you’re going to get what you pay for. I’m not saying that ,000 worth of photos will give you what you want, but if you find a good photographer with an al-a-carte option, you’ll be happier than just going with the cheapest option.

Try to cut as much as you can so that you can get the better photos. Don’t use favors and skip the groom’s cake – it’ll save you money you can spend on the photos.

A friend of mine had 0 to spend on photos and hired the cheapest guy she could fine. The photos were awful. They used a photography student at a local community college – it’s a great way to save money, but not a great thing to do if you really want to get great shots.

I’m looking advice for a florist, chair rentals, and photographer for wedding in North Houston, TX?

Question by Kaitlin M: I’m looking advice for a florist, chair rentals, and photographer for wedding in North Houston, TX?
I am getting married in October of this year, I am looking for:

Florist- I need 1 brides bouquet, 4 brides maids, 3 mothers corsage, 1 groom boutonniere, 4 best men boutonniere, 3 fathers boutonniere, and 1 throw away. Also an undecided number of small centerpieces. I would like real flowers but if you think silk would be cheaper then I can do that also.

Chair rentals- I’m looking for the white wood reception chairs. These will be for the actual ceremony and I need about 200 of them.

Photographer- Obviously for the wedding, ceremony and reception. No video just pictures.

What I’m really looking for is advice on how to do all these things. I know the photographer would have to be local and the chairs because I would have to return them, but for the flowers, if anyone knows of a good website or something where I could get the flower for cheap and do them myself that would be great. Any ideas for saving money in these areas would be great also. I don’t want to spend Altot of money but I still want it to be nice. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Kaitlin & Warm Wishes on your upcoming nuptials! I’m sure that you are excited.

Have you already determined where the wedding/reception will be held?

If so, your venue could make recommendations on vendors that they have used in the past, or perhaps they have their own inventory.

Would you share a little more about what you’ve already determined & that will guide advice that you receive.
